KUCHING – The Kuching Drug Control Action Council convened its first meeting of 2026 on 22 April at the Kuching Resident Meeting Room, focusing on current challenges and coordinated strategies to address drug abuse in the district.
The session was chaired by Puan Siti Rohaya binti Wahet, Head of the Social Transformation Section at the Kuching Resident’s Office.
She underscored the importance of strengthening cooperation among agencies to ensure that prevention, enforcement and rehabilitation measures are implemented effectively.
The meeting served as a platform for multiple stakeholders to align their approaches in tackling drug-related issues.
Discussions covered monitoring high-risk areas, enhancing community involvement, and expanding public awareness programmes.
Cross-agency collaboration was highlighted as a key factor in ensuring that interventions are both comprehensive and sustainable.
Participants also examined the role of community engagement in supporting enforcement efforts. By involving local residents, authorities aim to build stronger networks of vigilance and support, thereby reducing the prevalence of drug abuse in vulnerable areas.
In her address, Puan Siti Rohaya stressed that combating drug abuse requires continuous commitment from all parties, including government agencies, non-governmental organisations and the wider community.
She emphasised that only through collective action can the vision of a prosperous, drug-free society be achieved.
The meeting reaffirmed the council’s role as a strategic platform for coordinating efforts across different sectors.
By integrating enforcement with education and rehabilitation, stakeholders aim to deliver more effective outcomes for the well-being of the local population.
Officials noted that the council’s initiatives are aligned with Sarawak’s broader public safety agenda, which prioritises community resilience and social harmony.
The meeting concluded with a commitment to strengthen cooperation networks and ensure that planned actions are implemented efficiently.
