KUCHING — The Kuching Festival Folk Dance Display 2025 lit up the city tonight with a vibrant showcase of cultural performances, reflecting the Kuching South City Council’s (MBKS) commitment to its guiding principle of “No One Left Behind”.

The event, held as part of the annual Kuching Festival, drew large crowds who were treated to traditional dances from various ethnic communities. Colourful costumes, rhythmic music, and graceful movements filled the stage, creating an atmosphere of unity and celebration.
Representing YB Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, Deputy Premier and Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government Sarawak, MBKS Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng praised the cultural display as a true reflection of the city’s inclusive spirit.
“Dance is more than just an art form; it is also exercise, connection, and celebration. It brings communities together, fosters friendships, and showcases the beauty of our diversity,” Dato Wee said in his speech.

He also highlighted a major achievement for MBKS — becoming the first local council in Sarawak to join the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) Global Network of Age-friendly Cities and Communities. This milestone, he said, underscores the Council’s dedication to building a healthier, more inclusive Kuching that is prepared for the future.
The night’s performances featured traditional and cultural dances from various ethnic groups, including Malay, Chinese, Iban, Bidayuh, and Indian communities, as well as other indigenous cultures. Spectators, both locals and tourists, enjoyed the rich display of heritage that symbolised harmony, vitality, and mutual respect.
