Kuching Immigration Cracks Down on Foreigners Without Papers

Kuching Immigration Cracks Down on Foreigners Without Papers

KUCHING, 28 January 2026 – The Kuching Immigration Enforcement Division conducted a large-scale operation across Kuching City to target foreigners without valid travel documents. The two-day operation, carried out from 27 to 28 January, aimed to strengthen immigration compliance and maintain public safety.

A total of 31 enforcement officers were deployed in the operation, which resulted in the detention and arrest of 42 foreign nationals suspected of committing offences under Malaysian immigration laws. Authorities said the suspects were found in a mix of residential and commercial locations throughout the city.

The operation focused on several hotspots, including the Cement Factory area in Kampung Sandong, rental houses in Kampung Kudei, and a shared accommodation at the Metrocticy construction site. Enforcement officers also raided several eateries along Jalan Semarak, Gita, which were suspected of employing foreign workers without proper documentation. Some premises were believed to be linked to online gambling activities.

During the raids, some foreign nationals attempted to evade the authorities by hiding or fleeing. However, the swift coordination and efficiency of the Kuching Immigration team ensured that these attempts were unsuccessful. Authorities stressed that such operations are vital to uphold the integrity of Malaysia’s immigration system and protect public safety.

The Malaysian Immigration Department confirmed that enforcement efforts will continue throughout the year. Officials reminded business operators and the public that compliance with immigration laws is mandatory, and violators will face legal action. The department reaffirmed its commitment to ensure that Kuching remains a safe and orderly city for all residents.

With ongoing vigilance, Kuching authorities aim to prevent illegal employment and other offences linked to undocumented foreigners while reinforcing Malaysia’s immigration laws.
