JBPM Controls Kuching Land and Survey Office Fire Within Hours

KUCHING – A fire broke out early this morning at the Kuching Division Land and Survey Department office along Jalan Badruddin but was quickly brought under control by the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM).

According to a spokesperson from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department, an emergency call was received at 1.46am, prompting immediate response from the Batu Lintang Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) with additional support from the Padungan BBP.

The first team arrived at the scene just four minutes later, at 1.50am. Upon inspection, the fire was discovered in the land registration branch office room on the ground floor of the three-storey building.

Operations Commander PBK II TBBK I Wan Zakaria Wan Mos confirmed that the blaze originated from electrical appliances in the office.

“The fire affected about 10 percent of the office space, with damage caused mainly by smoke and water. Our team used two auxiliary hose streams from the machinery pump to extinguish the flames completely,” he explained.

The firefighting operation was declared under control at 2.59am and fully concluded at 3.03am. No injuries or casualties were reported in the incident.

In total, 18 firefighters were deployed, supported by two Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) vehicles, one Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit and two Rapid Intervention Motorcycle (RIM) units.

Authorities are still investigating the exact cause of the fire and estimating the total losses incurred.

The swift response by JBPM prevented the fire from spreading further and ensured the safety of the building’s structure, avoiding disruption to critical government services in Kuching.
