Two Motorcyclists Killed in Separate Accidents in Kuching

KUCHING – Two lives were lost in separate road accidents involving motorcyclists in Kuching within less than 24 hours.

The first incident happened along Jalan Kampung Mambong-Serian at 7.58pm on September 1. The collision involved a motorcycle and a car, leaving a 38-year-old motorcyclist dead at the scene.

Padawan District Police Chief, Supt Mohd Irwan Hafiz Md Radzi, confirmed the case and said police have opened an investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

“The victim was confirmed dead at the scene. Investigations are ongoing,” he said.

In another fatal case, a 26-year-old motorcyclist was killed early Monday morning after losing control of his motorcycle at Batu 7, Jalan Penrissen. The crash happened at around 12.48am.

According to police, the victim’s motorcycle struck a road divider before he was thrown to the opposite side of the road. He also died on the spot due to severe injuries.

Police confirmed the second case is also being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Both victims’ remains have been taken to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for post-mortem examinations.

Authorities reminded road users to prioritise safety and always remain cautious on the road, especially during night driving. The back-to-back accidents have raised concerns about the high number of motorcycle-related deaths in Kuching and surrounding areas.

The public has been urged to follow traffic rules and avoid speeding, as motorcycle riders remain the most vulnerable group in road crashes.
