KUCHING – Three local individuals, comprising two men and a woman, have been arrested by police following a suspected drug possession case at a house in Kampung Sungai Apong, Kuching.
The arrests were carried out at approximately 6pm on November 2, 2026, by officers from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division of the Kuching District Police Headquarters.
According to a media statement issued by Kuching District Police Chief ACP Alexson Naga anak Chabu on November 3, the suspects consisted of two men aged 18 and 25, and a 20-year-old woman.
A search conducted on the suspects led to the discovery of substances suspected to be methamphetamine, weighing approximately 5.55g. Police estimated the market value of the seized substances at RM610.
Initial urine screening tests conducted on all three individuals returned positive results for amphetamine and methamphetamine, according to the police statement.
Further checks revealed that the suspects had different criminal record histories. The 18-year-old man had no previous criminal record, while the 25-year-old man had seven previous records. The 20-year-old woman was found to have one previous criminal record, police said.
All three suspects were subsequently remanded for four days, from November 4 to November 7, 2026, under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code to assist police with further investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which covers offences involving specified quantities of dangerous drugs.
Under the provision cited by police, individuals convicted of an offence under the relevant section face imprisonment of between two and five years, together with whipping of between three and nine strokes.
The investigation remains ongoing, and the allegations against the suspects have yet to be established in court. The arrests and preliminary screening results do not in themselves constitute proof of guilt.
In the statement, Alexson said the arrests and seizure were the result of continued intelligence-gathering efforts and cooperation from members of the public.
He reiterated the Royal Malaysia Police’s position against drug-related offences, including possession, distribution and activities that facilitate drug-related operations.
The Kuching District Police Headquarters also encouraged members of the public to share information that could assist the authorities in identifying and addressing suspected drug activities in their communities.
Information can be channelled to the National Anti-Drug Crime Department (NCID) hotline at 012-208 7222 or the Sarawak Police Contingent Headquarters NCID hotline at 017-592 9211.
Police said the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department remains committed to tackling drug-related offences as part of efforts to protect the public and prevent the spread of illegal drugs.
