Dragged 40 Metres to Death in Horrific Crash Near Unimas, Two Others Injured

KUCHING — A tragic accident near Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) claimed the life of a woman this morning when she was dragged about 40 metres under a lorry following a collision between a motorcycle and a car along the Kuching–Samarahan Expressway in Kota Samarahan.

According to Buletin TV3, the 9.30am crash involved a motorcycle carrying a woman and a man, which collided with a car driven by another woman near the traffic lights in front of Unimas. The force of the impact flung the female motorcycle passenger under a nearby lorry, where she was dragged several metres before coming to a stop.

A spokesman for the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department’s (JBPM) Operations Centre said they received a distress call at 9.30am and immediately dispatched a fire engine and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) vehicle from the Kota Samarahan Fire and Rescue Station, with a total of six personnel to the scene.

“Upon arrival, the team found that the motorcycle was completely burnt, believed to have caught fire after colliding with a Proton Saga,” the spokesman said in a statement.

The woman motorist sustained injuries in the crash, while the male motorcycle rider — who was travelling with the deceased — was also hurt. Both injured victims were taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

Police and rescue teams later cleared the site as traffic built up along the expressway due to the tragic incident. The remains of the deceased woman were handed over to the authorities for further action.

This latest incident adds to the growing number of fatal accidents reported along the Kuching–Samarahan Expressway, which has long been flagged by locals for its heavy traffic and frequent collisions, especially during peak hours.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash.
