Massive turnout makes history with two Malaysia Book of Records titles

KUCHING – The Kuching Zumba Fiesta 2025 ended on a historic high note last night as 11,349 participants came together at the State Hockey Stadium to dance their way into the Malaysia Book of Records. The event, held in conjunction with its 10th anniversary, officially set two new national records: Largest Participation in a Zumba Event and Largest Participation in a Glow in the Dark Zumba Event.

Organised by the Kuching South City Council (MBKS), the high-energy fiesta transformed the stadium into a vibrant sea of glowing lights from 7:00pm to 10:30pm. Armed with glow sticks and fuelled by thumping Zumba beats, participants of all ages moved in unison under the night sky, celebrating health, unity, and community spirit.

Deputy premier of Sarawak Dr Sim Kui Hian, expressed immense pride in the overwhelming response from the public.

“This is more than a fitness event — it’s a symbol of how we, as Kuchingites, can come together for a common goal. Thank you to everyone who showed up and made this night one for the history books,” he said.

Free registration via the iPeople App encouraged widespread participation, drawing thousands of fitness enthusiasts from around Sarawak and beyond.

Adding more excitement to the night, participants stood a chance to win exciting lucky draw prizes, including:

  • 2 return flight tickets to Kunming, China
  • 4 mountain bikes
  • 15 units of electrical appliances
