According to Kuching district police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, the 54-year-old businessman driving the Lamborghini voluntarily lodged a police report within an hour after the incident.

“The driver did not flee. He reported the incident promptly and cooperated fully with police,” Alexson said in a statement to The Borneo Post.

He added that the man was arrested to assist with further investigations and is currently regarded as a suspect under the case.

The accident occurred while the driver was heading from Jalan Airport to Padungan. The victim, identified as Bi Guang Dong, 52, a Chinese national and general worker involved in the Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) lane construction project, was crossing the road when he was struck by the sports car.

Bi was pronounced dead at the scene by medical officers from the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).

At present, Bi’s body remains at SGH, pending claims from his next-of-kin in China.

The case has been classified under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless or dangerous driving causing death. Upon conviction, the penalty includes 5 to 10 years’ imprisonment and a fine between RM20,000 and RM50,000.

ACP Alexson has called on the public to step forward with any relevant information. Witnesses are encouraged to contact ASP Lucas Apin at 013-8246881, 082-259900, or visit the nearest police station.
