According to Kuching District Police Chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, the incident occurred at approximately 6.50 PM when the victim, employed as a general worker at a nearby ART construction site, attempted to cross the busy road. He was fatally hit by a Lamborghini driven by a 54-year-old local man travelling towards Padungan.

The victim suffered severe head injuries and was confirmed dead at the scene by medical personnel from Sarawak General Hospital. The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with many expressing sadness and concern over the safety of foreign workers and road users.

In the wake of the accident, the driver of the luxury vehicle has been detained by the police to assist with further investigations. The case is currently being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which deals with reckless driving resulting in death. If convicted, the driver faces a jail term of 5 to 10 years and a fine ranging between RM20,000 and RM50,000.

Police have urged witnesses or anyone with relevant information to step forward. Members of the public may contact ASP Lucas bin Apin at 013-8246881 / 082-259900 or report to the nearest police station.

ACP Alexson also reminded road users to always stay alert, follow road regulations, and be especially cautious around construction zones and pedestrian crossings to prevent similar tragedies.

“This incident is a sad reminder of the value of human life. Integrity on the road starts with every driver,” ACP Alexson added. – Polis Daerah Kuching
