LIMBANG – Members of the public have been urged to comply with appointment schedules set by Limbang Hospital to prevent overcrowding at the Outpatient Department (OPD), following recent reports of congestion.
Deputy Transport Minister and Limbang MP, Datuk Hasbi Habibollah, said that the issue of overcrowding had surfaced on social media in recent months, with patients arriving as early as 5am to secure queue numbers. This practice, he explained, has disrupted hospital operations and extended waiting times.
“The cooperation of the public is very important. If all parties follow the commitments set, health services can be provided more efficiently and effectively,” he said during the opening of the Sarawak Annual Mass Circumcision (Sunathon) 2025 Limbang Division at Limbang Hospital.
Datuk Hasbi emphasised that both the Federal and Sarawak Governments, alongside local representatives, remain committed to supporting the hospital’s development for the benefit of the community.
He noted that Limbang Hospital has undergone significant renovations and upgrades in recent years, with new facilities introduced in stages.
“Alhamdulillah, today Limbang Hospital has specialist doctors in some fields for the benefit of Limbang residents, as previously many patients were sent to Miri Hospital,” he said.
He added that the strengthening of health services in Limbang is particularly important given its geographical position bordering Brunei Darussalam, where cross-border cooperation has also benefited local residents.
The Sunathon 2025 Limbang Division programme, held over two days from 20 to 21 December, received strong participation with more than 90 children and youths aged between eight and sixteen undergoing circumcision.
The initiative, which provides free or subsidised services, is part of a wider state-level programme expected to be recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR).
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail, Sarawak Deputy Minister of Consumer Industry, Commodities and Rural Development and Bukit Kota assemblyman, Dr Nurain Yahya, Director of Limbang Hospital, Borhan Mahrin from the Sarawak Baitulmal Fund Unit, and Ismail Assan Mohd, Chief of the Limbang Zone Fire and Rescue Department.
The Premier’s call for cooperation reflects broader efforts to improve healthcare delivery in Sarawak, ensuring that facilities such as Limbang Hospital can serve residents effectively without unnecessary strain on resources.
