Lorry Slams Into Kancil at Jalan Serikin, 3 Trapped in Crash

Lorry Slams Into Kancil at Jalan Serikin, 3 Trapped in Crash

BAU, SARAWAK – A serious road accident occurred this morning on Jalan Serikin, close to the Kampung Stass junction, involving a lorry and a small car, leaving three people trapped.

According to a statement from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Centre, the department received an emergency call about the incident at 10:06 AM. A rescue team from the Bau Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) was immediately dispatched to the scene, which is approximately 12 kilometres away from the station.

The accident involved a three-ton lorry and a Perodua Kancil, a compact car often seen on Malaysian roads. Upon arrival at around 10:20 AM, rescue personnel discovered that the lorry driver escaped the crash without injury.

However, three occupants of the Kancil were found trapped inside the vehicle, said Operations Commander Senior Superintendent of Fire Officers (PKPgB) Zainuddin Ngatdemon.

“Our team managed to free one adult male from the car. He suffered injuries but was conscious,” said Zainuddin. “The remaining two victims, a man and a woman, were still trapped when the report was submitted.”

Rescue efforts were ongoing at the time of the report. The exact cause of the crash has not yet been determined, as investigations by the relevant authorities are still underway.

This incident highlights once again the importance of road safety, especially on busy and often narrow rural roads such as Jalan Serikin. Motorists are advised to exercise extra caution when driving in such areas, especially during the early hours of the day when traffic and visibility conditions can be unpredictable.
