KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has reaffirmed that the MADANI Government continues to prioritise the welfare of the people in the 2026 Budget, which was tabled in the Senate this week.
He explained that deficit reduction is being carried out gradually to ensure fiscal space remains strong, allowing the government to finance development projects, particularly basic infrastructure that supports economic growth and enhances the well-being of citizens.
The Prime Minister stressed that subsidy targeting is being firmly implemented to ensure assistance reaches the largest number of Malaysians.
This measure is also designed to prevent leakages that benefit non-citizens and commercial entities, ensuring that government aid is channelled effectively to those most in need.
In addressing disaster management, Anwar revealed that he has instructed the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA), along with federal, state, and local government machinery, to guarantee that every flood victim receives appropriate protection, assistance, and welfare.
For this purpose, the government has allocated RM500 million specifically for the repair of roads, bridges, and basic infrastructure damaged by flood disasters.
The allocation underscores the administration’s commitment to safeguarding communities and restoring essential services in affected areas.
The Prime Minister’s remarks highlight the government’s dual focus on fiscal responsibility and social welfare.
By balancing deficit reduction with targeted subsidies and disaster relief, the 2026 Budget reflects the MADANI Government’s vision of inclusive and sustainable development.
