PUTRAJAYA – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim met with editors-in-chief and journalists from local and international media in Putrajaya, where he presented a comprehensive summary of the MADANI Government’s achievements in 2025 and outlined priorities for the year ahead.
Among the key reforms highlighted were the enactment of the Public Finance and Fiscal Responsibility Act and the Government Procurement Bill, both aimed at strengthening transparency and accountability in financial management.
The Prime Minister also underscored the government’s success in implementing fair subsidy targeting, designed to ease the burden on citizens while closing loopholes that previously allowed misuse.
Anwar noted that enforcement agencies had intensified their role, resulting in seizures and penalties amounting to RM15.5 billion.
He also pointed to significant progress in the development of Sabah and Sarawak, with nine out of the 13 demands under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) already settled.
From an economic perspective, Malaysia recorded its highest approved investment in history, totalling RM384.4 billion. The ringgit strengthened to around RM4.11 against the US dollar, reflecting improved investor confidence.
The government also raised civil servant salaries and increased the minimum wage, while efforts to eradicate extreme poverty have nearly reached their target, with only 0.09 per cent of households remaining in the category.
Despite these achievements, Anwar acknowledged that challenges remain. “There are still weaknesses, shortcomings and room for improvement,” he said, adding that the government welcomes constructive criticism and is committed to working harder in 2026.
Responding to questions on recent Cabinet appointments, the Prime Minister explained that the changes were made to inject new energy into several ministries, including the inclusion of younger figures to accelerate the reform agenda.
He emphasised that the MADANI Cabinet will continue to pursue meaningful reforms in line with public expectations, while firmly rejecting divisive narratives based on racism or religious extremism.
The session reflected the government’s pledge to maintain transparency, strengthen governance, and ensure that reforms are felt across all levels of society.
