PUTRAJAYA – The National Energy Council (MTN) convened its second meeting of 2025 today, chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, with discussions centred on the Natural Gas Roadmap (NGR) presented by the Ministry of Economy.
The council endorsed a sustainable strategy under the roadmap aimed at safeguarding Malaysia’s energy security while supporting socio-economic growth and advancing the transition towards a low-carbon economy.
Key priorities outlined include raising the share of renewable energy to 35 per cent by 2030, expanding open grid access, and accelerating investments in green technology and new energy solutions.
These measures are aligned with the Thirteenth Malaysia Plan (13MP), which seeks to build a more innovative, competitive, and inclusive energy system to ensure long-term sustainability and public well-being.
The meeting also reviewed the latest assessment by the Energy Commission on electricity demand and supply for data centres, reflecting the growing importance of digital infrastructure in Malaysia’s economic landscape.
In addition, approval was granted for the development of an e-Mobility Service Platform, designed to integrate and coordinate the operations of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations nationwide.
Prime Minister Anwar reaffirmed the government’s commitment to translating Malaysia’s energy transition aspirations into tangible outcomes.
He stressed that the MADANI government remains focused on positioning Malaysia as a leading low-carbon economy that is both sustainable and resilient.
Malaysia’s energy transition strategy is expected to strengthen the country’s competitiveness in the region, while ensuring that future growth is underpinned by environmental responsibility and technological innovation.
