Malaysia Forms TVET Big Data Committee to Boost Skills Ecosystem

The new committee will serve as a central authority for data management, enabling the government to implement data-driven planning for TVET programmes. This includes aligning courses and curricula with job market projections, ensuring that training initiatives remain relevant and impactful.

Officials confirmed that the move is part of the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMKe-13), which emphasises the use of big data to improve monitoring efficiency and enhance the effectiveness of training programmes nationwide.

The meeting also reviewed progress across several initiatives. Among them were Hi-TVET, the Techno-Huffaz programme, achievements at WorldSkills ASEAN, the TVET Penjara Malaysia initiative, and the GiatMARA programme, which continues to improve the employability and income levels of participants.

Dr Zahid stressed that these efforts reaffirm the government’s commitment to building a more integrated and competitive TVET ecosystem. “With collaboration between ministries, agencies and industry partners, we will ensure that TVET remains the top choice for young people and a driver of the country’s human capital development,” he said.

Malaysia’s TVET strategy has been increasingly recognised as a key pillar in preparing the workforce for future challenges. By focusing on big data, the government aims to better anticipate industry needs, reduce skills mismatches, and strengthen the country’s position in regional and global labour markets.

The Deputy Prime Minister also highlighted that the initiatives under review demonstrate Malaysia’s ability to innovate within the TVET sector, combining traditional vocational training with modern approaches such as digitalisation and industry partnerships.

The establishment of the TVET Big Data Interim Committee marks a milestone in Malaysia’s education reform journey, signalling a stronger national framework for skills development that is expected to benefit both students and employers in the years ahead.
