NAIROBI – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim met with members of the Malaysian community in Kenya, describing the gathering as a new chapter in the flourishing presence of Malaysians abroad.
The meeting brought together Malaysians living and working in Nairobi, including long-term residents and recent arrivals.
Despite being far from home, the community continues to uphold the values, warmth, and cultural identity that are synonymous with Malaysia.
Discussions touched on adapting to different work cultures, family life, and the challenges of cultural integration, while maintaining the distinct manners and traditions that reflect their homeland.
Anwar noted that many of those present were alumni of the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP), a flagship initiative that has fostered international collaboration and capacity building for decades.
Their participation highlighted Malaysia’s role in nurturing global talent and strengthening people-to-people connections across continents.
The Prime Minister expressed admiration for the community’s strong sense of belonging and enduring love for Malaysia.
“Although they live far away on the African continent, their hearts and minds remain tied to the country,” he said.
He added that their authenticity, friendliness, and professionalism indirectly uphold Malaysia’s reputation abroad.
The gathering underscored how diaspora communities contribute to Malaysia’s global image by embodying national values in their daily lives.
Anwar emphasised that such relationships, built on sincerity and honesty, serve as bridges connecting Malaysia with the wider world.
He concluded by expressing pride in the Malaysian community’s resilience and confidence that their presence in Kenya will continue to strengthen bilateral ties and foster mutual understanding between the two nations.
