Man Injured, Child Among Two Survive Car-Lorry Crash in Bintulu

Man Injured, Child Among Two Survive Car-Lorry Crash in Bintulu

BINTULU — A man sustained injuries while two others, including a child, escaped with minor pain following a collision between a car and a lorry carrying concrete near the BMC traffic lights here this afternoon.

According to a spokesperson from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), the accident was reported at 1.02pm. A team of nine firefighters from the Bintulu Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) was immediately dispatched to the scene.

“Upon arrival, it was confirmed that the incident involved a Perodua Bezza carrying two passengers and a lorry loaded with concrete. The car’s passengers, a 38-year-old man and his seven-year-old son, were successfully rescued by members of the public before our team arrived,” the spokesperson said.

Both victims reportedly suffered only mild chest pain and were attended to by medical personnel at the scene.

Meanwhile, the 30-year-old lorry driver was found trapped inside his vehicle after suffering injuries to his face and hands. Firefighters used special rescue equipment to free him safely from the wreckage.

“The injured lorry driver was handed over to the Ministry of Health (MOH) medical team for initial treatment before being transferred to hospital for further care,” the statement added.

Firefighters ended the operation at 1.26pm after ensuring that the location was fully safe for traffic and the public.

The swift actions of bystanders, firefighters, and medical personnel helped prevent further tragedy in the incident. Authorities have yet to release further details on the cause of the accident, and investigations are still ongoing.

This latest accident highlights the importance of cautious driving, particularly near traffic lights and busy intersections in Bintulu, where heavy vehicles often pass through.
