Sarawak Leaders Unite at State-Level Maulidur Rasul 1447H Celebration

KUCHING – The Sarawak-level Maulidur Rasul Thanksgiving Ceremony 1447H/2025M was held with great reverence at the Sarawak State Jamek Mosque last night, bringing together state and federal leaders to commemorate the birth of Prophet Muhammad SAW.

His Excellency the Governor of Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar, and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah binti Mohd Sanusi, were among the first dignitaries to arrive at the mosque at 6.30pm. They were welcomed by Datuk Dr. Abdul Rahman bin Junaidi, Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department, along with other senior officials and community leaders.

The evening began with congregational Maghrib prayers, followed by the recitation of Surah Yaasin led by Dato Haji Mustapha Kamal bin Haji Ahmad Fauzi, the Grand Imam of Sarawak. The highlight of the night was a special Tazkirah by Sarawak Mufti, Sahibus Samahah Datu Haji Kipli bin Haji Yassin, titled “Akhlak Asas Ummah Maju Makmur”. The lecture reminded Muslims of the importance of following Prophet Muhammad SAW’s noble character as the foundation for building a moral, united, and prosperous society.

The programme continued with congregational Isyak prayers before the gathering was uplifted by marhaban dhikr performances from the Kuching Division Zikir Group led by Dato Haji Ismawi bin Duet.

The event was further honoured by the presence of the Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, alongside Deputy Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Haji Fadillah bin Haji Yusof, Speaker of the Sarawak Legislative Assembly Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia bin Awang Nassar, and various state officials. Also in attendance was H.E. Neak Oknha Datuk Dr. Othsman Hassan, Cambodia’s Senior Minister and Special Envoy to the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

Before departing, Tun Pehin Sri Wan Junaidi and Toh Puan Fauziah joined dignitaries for a dinner reception, symbolising unity and friendship across leadership ranks.

The annual thanksgiving ceremony continues to serve as a platform to strengthen brotherhood, uphold Islamic values, and promote harmony among Sarawak’s multicultural and multireligious community.
