KUCHING – In conjunction with the Gawai Dayak celebration, Kuching South Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng visited Balai Polis Bintawa to extend festive greetings and express gratitude to police personnel for their dedication in safeguarding the community.
Dato Wee was joined by MBKS Councillor Cr Albert Tay and Kapitan Tan Teck Min during the visit. As part of the occasion, Kapitan Tan contributed refreshments as a gesture of appreciation for the officers and staff stationed at the police facility.
Speaking at the event, Dato Wee highlighted the vital role police officers play in maintaining peace and public confidence.
He noted that their responsibilities often extend beyond regular hours, including festive periods when many citizens are with their families.
“While Gawai Dayak is a time of celebration, thanksgiving, and family gatherings, many police personnel continue to be on duty to ensure the safety and well-being of the public. Their commitment and sacrifices deserve our deepest appreciation and respect,” he said.
He further emphasised that the professionalism and sense of duty demonstrated by police officers contribute significantly to the stability and harmony enjoyed by the community.
According to him, recognising the contributions of frontline personnel is essential, as they work tirelessly behind the scenes to keep the city safe and orderly.
Dato Wee extended his warmest Gawai Dayak greetings to all police personnel and members of the Dayak community, wishing them joy, prosperity, good health, and happiness.
He encouraged residents to continue cherishing the values of unity, mutual respect, and togetherness that strengthen community bonds.

By acknowledging the sacrifices of police officers during festive seasons, the council reinforced the importance of community appreciation and support for those who uphold public safety.
Gawai Dayak, celebrated annually on 1 and 2 June, marks the end of the harvest season and is a time of thanksgiving and renewal for the Dayak people.
The festival is widely observed across Sarawak, bringing families and communities together through traditional rituals, gatherings, and cultural activities.
Through this gesture, MBKS not only honoured the dedication of police personnel but also highlighted the broader values of unity and gratitude that underpin the Gawai Dayak celebration.
The visit served as a reminder of the collective effort required to maintain peace and harmony in Kuching, especially during festive occasions.
