The site had long been a hotspot for irresponsible waste disposal, prompting MCC to intensify its clean-up operations and raise awareness about the environmental impact of such practices.

Continuous clearing efforts, combined with enforcement measures, have finally resulted in a cleaner and safer environment for the community.

To strengthen monitoring, MCC has installed a closed-circuit television (CCTV) system at the location. The footage is monitored around the clock from the Miri City Command Centre.

Offenders caught dumping waste illegally will be identified through their vehicle registration numbers and issued compounds of up to RM1,000 per offence.

The council has expressed gratitude to the public for their cooperation in maintaining cleanliness at the site.

Companies generating large volumes of bulky waste have been reminded to dispose of their materials directly at the Kuala Baram Landfill, where a minimal disposal fee applies.

MCC stressed that this measure is necessary to prevent commercial waste from being abandoned in public spaces. The Council also announced plans to intensify enforcement against offenders.

Those found guilty of indiscriminate dumping may face compounds of up to RM1,000, fines of up to RM2,000, or imprisonment of up to six months, depending on court proceedings.

MCC reiterated that strict enforcement is essential to deter polluters and safeguard the city’s cleanliness. Illegal dumping remains a pressing issue in many urban centres, often leading to environmental pollution and health risks.
