MIRI – The spirit of compassion and civic responsibility was on full display during the Miri Blood Donation Campaign 2026, where 66 out of 75 registered participants successfully donated blood.
The campaign, jointly organised by the North Sarawak Journalists Association (NSJA), MiriFM Social Club, and Shun Shen Lee (Miri) Trading Sdn Bhd, took place at the Boulevard Shopping Centre’s Exhibition Hall on Jalan Pujut.
Running from 9am to 1pm, the event coincided with early New Year celebrations, adding a festive yet purposeful atmosphere.
The initiative was designed to raise awareness about the importance of blood donation while helping to meet the supply needs of Miri Hospital.
Organisers highlighted that such efforts are vital in ensuring patients have access to life-saving blood supplies, particularly during festive seasons when demand often rises.
Chairman of the Organising Committee and NSJA Treasurer, Andy Jong Wan Joon, explained that the association has been committed to organising blood donation drives since 2019 as part of its broader social responsibility.
“Every drop of blood donated is very meaningful and can give new hope to patients in need,” he said, underscoring the impact of community participation.
As an organisation made up of media practitioners, NSJA sees its role not only in reporting, but also in leading by example through initiatives that deliver tangible benefits to society. The campaign reflects this ethos, combining advocacy with direct action.
Donors were presented with tokens of appreciation in the form of basic necessities sponsored by programme partners.
The gesture served as recognition of their contribution and encouraged continued participation in future campaigns.
The event was supported by the Miri Hospital Blood Bank, the Malaysian Red Crescent Miri Branch, Miri Hospital, and Boulevard Shopping Mall, alongside several other sponsors.
Their collaboration ensured the smooth running of the campaign and highlighted the importance of collective effort in community initiatives.
Organisers expressed optimism that the campaign would inspire more residents to take part in future drives, reinforcing Miri’s reputation as a city with strong community values.
The success of the event also demonstrated how partnerships between civic organisations, businesses, and healthcare institutions can make a meaningful difference.
With 66 donors stepping forward, the campaign not only replenished blood supplies but also symbolised hope and solidarity, reminding the community that small acts of generosity can have life-saving consequences.
