MIRI – Firefighters in Miri successfully extinguished a bushfire that broke out across several locations on 22 April 2026, following a prolonged operation that lasted nearly ten hours.
The incident occurred at Jalan Taman Jelita Utama, Canada Hill, and Beraya Beach, prompting a coordinated response from the Miri Fire and Rescue Department (BBP Miri).
The operation, which began at 9.51 am, was led by PBK II Nelson Dennis and concluded at 7.45 pm.
Crews worked throughout the day to contain the flames, which spread across multiple areas of vegetation.
The firefighting effort involved extensive manpower and equipment, with teams ensuring that hotspots were fully extinguished before declaring the situation safe.
Authorities confirmed that the fire was successfully put out, preventing further damage to nearby properties and ensuring public safety. No casualties were reported during the incident.
The Miri Fire and Rescue Department highlighted the importance of vigilance during the current dry season, noting that bushfires can spread rapidly and pose significant risks to communities.
Residents are urged to avoid open burning and to report any signs of fire immediately to local authorities.
