Miri Immigration Arrests Foreigner for Illegal Fundraising

Miri Immigration Arrests Foreigner for Illegal Fundraising

MIRI – The Immigration Department of Malaysia (JIM) Miri Branch successfully arrested a foreign national during an enforcement operation in Miri City on Wednesday. Authorities discovered the individual was involved in unauthorized fundraising activities, seizing a total of RM194 in cash as evidence.

According to the initial investigation, the suspect had been abusing the Social Visit Pass (PLS), which allows foreigners to enter Malaysia for tourism or short visits. Instead of adhering to the terms of the pass, the individual engaged in activities that violated the law, namely the collection of donations without proper authorization.

“The Social Visit Pass is strictly for tourism or short stays. Any activity outside these conditions, including fundraising, is considered illegal,” stated a spokesperson from JIM Miri. The arrested individual is now being investigated under Section 8(3)(g) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, and Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963. These legal provisions cover violations of the pass conditions and unauthorized conduct by foreigners in the country.

Authorities emphasized that public vigilance plays an important role in maintaining security and order in Miri City. Citizens are urged to report any suspicious activity involving foreigners, particularly those that may threaten public safety or violate immigration laws. The Immigration Department continues to conduct regular enforcement operations to ensure compliance with Malaysia’s immigration regulations and to protect the integrity of the Social Visit Pass system.

This case serves as a reminder that Malaysia maintains strict oversight over the activities of foreigners, and violations of the law will be met with prompt enforcement. Officials confirmed that further action would be taken depending on the outcome of ongoing investigations.
