MIRI – The Miri City Council has undertaken tree pruning works along the main Miri-Pujut Road, particularly in front of the 101 Commercial Centre, between 14 and 31 July 2026.
The maintenance programme was carried out as part of ongoing efforts to enhance public safety and improve visibility for motorists and pedestrians.
By trimming overgrown branches, the council aims to reduce potential hazards, particularly during adverse weather conditions, while also ensuring smoother traffic flow along one of the city’s busiest routes.
Council representatives explained that the initiative forms part of a wider streetscape management plan designed to keep Miri’s urban environment clean, green and orderly.
Regular pruning not only improves road safety but also contributes to the overall aesthetic appeal of the city, supporting its image as a well-maintained and liveable urban centre.
Residents and road users were advised to exercise caution while works were in progress, with temporary traffic management measures put in place to minimise disruption.
The council expressed appreciation for the public’s cooperation and patience during the maintenance period.
Officials further emphasised that such routine works are essential to maintaining infrastructure resilience and ensuring that public spaces remain safe and accessible.
They reiterated the council’s commitment to balancing environmental care with urban development, noting that tree management plays a crucial role in sustaining Miri’s green identity.
The pruning exercise reflects the city’s broader commitment to proactive maintenance and community well-being.
By investing in regular upkeep, the council seeks to prevent accidents, safeguard visibility and promote a healthier environment for residents and visitors alike.
