KUCHING – The vibrant cultural diversity of Sarawak took centre stage at the Miss Cultural International Sarawak 2025, where 19-year-old Chanel Eve Lee Pei Xin from Kuching was crowned the new ambassador on 7 September 2025.
The grand event, hosted at the Grand Riverine Ballroom and organised by Junior Chamber International (JCI) Damai, celebrated heritage, tradition, and female empowerment.
Chanel will advance to represent Sarawak at the Miss Cultural International Malaysia 2025 competition in Kuala Lumpur on 20 September, alongside 1st Runner-up Neasthy Laade, 2nd Runner-up Ng Ka Sing, and Wildcard entrant Deanna Allycia Binti Ferrazzillah. Together, they will showcase Sarawak’s rich cultural heritage on a national stage.

JCI Damai Local President Wong Liang Jie emphasised that the pageant was designed not only to crown a winner, but also to provide young women with opportunities for growth.
“This project serves as a platform for women empowerment. We want to create an opportunity for self-development through public speaking and beauty pageantry. Our goal is not just to crown a queen, but to equip young women with the confidence and skills to conquer their nerves under pressure,” he said.
The event also reflected JCI Damai’s broader mission of youth leadership and community development. Wong noted that while contestants improved their confidence and presentation skills, JCI members gained valuable project management and teamwork experience by planning and executing the programme.

The evening dazzled with traditional attire displays from Sarawak’s many ethnic communities, complemented by contestant introductions and a lively question-and-answer session.
The combination of cultural pride and personal development underscored the pageant’s unique role in empowering Sarawak’s youth.
