KUCHING — Mita Cake House has issued an official statement regarding the temporary suspension of the Halal certification for its Tun Jugah outlet, assuring customers that the company remains committed to maintaining halal standards across all its operations.
In the statement released on May 6, 2026, the management of New Mita Cake House Sdn Bhd explained that the suspension followed an incident involving a staff member who brought an unopened cider mixed with a lemon-flavoured beverage into the premises. The company described the act as irresponsible and clarified that the incident involved a canned carbonated drink containing low alcohol by volume (ABV).
The management stressed that the issue was isolated and did not involve the ingredients or food preparation processes used by the bakery. According to the statement, all ingredients and operational procedures at the outlet continue to comply with halal requirements.
Mita Cake House said it understands the concerns raised by customers and the Muslim community following the incident. The company thanked members of the public for their feedback, concern, and continued support during the matter.
The bakery chain also confirmed that the Halal certifications for its remaining seven outlets are still valid and unaffected. At the same time, the company is currently working on renewing the Halal certification for the Tun Jugah outlet.
