Motorcyclist Dies, Pillion Rider Injured in Kota Samarahan Crash

KOTA SAMARAHAN: A tragic accident at KM18, Jalan Kampung Moyan Ulu today claimed the life of a motorcyclist while his pillion rider suffered serious injuries.

Kota Samarahan District Police Chief, Superintendent Damaterius Lautin, reported that the accident occurred at approximately 1.30 pm.

Initial investigations revealed that the motorcyclist, Zainal Masri, 32, and his pillion rider were en route to Kampung Moyan Laut from Asajaya. Their journey took a tragic turn when the motorcycle lost control and veered into the opposite lane, colliding head-on with a Proton Waja.

Following the collision, Zainal was rushed to the Asajaya Health Clinic, where he was later pronounced dead. Meanwhile, the pillion rider suffered severe injuries and was immediately transferred to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for urgent medical attention.

Car Driver Found Without a Valid License

Superintendent Damaterius also disclosed that the Proton Waja driver escaped unharmed but was found to be driving without a valid license. The case is currently being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which deals with causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

Authorities Urge Caution on the Roads

Damaterius urged all road users to remain vigilant and strictly adhere to traffic regulations to prevent such unfortunate incidents. He emphasized that road safety is a shared responsibility and reminded motorists to always stay alert while driving or riding.
