Two Climbers Found Safe After Getting Lost at Mount Bung Muan

BAU – Two women who went missing during a climbing activity at Mount Bung Muan in Kampung Peninjau, Siniawan, were found safe after straying from their group on 25 April 2026.

The incident occurred at around 1.45 pm when the climbers reportedly lost their way while ascending the mountain.

Initial findings revealed that the pair had begun their climb earlier that morning at approximately 8.42 am with other group members.

At some point during the trek, they are believed to have deviated from the designated route and became separated.

By 5.30 pm, the rest of the group had reached the foot of the mountain and realised the two women were missing. Concerned for their safety, they contacted the national emergency line for assistance.

Security forces, including the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Fire and Rescue Department, Civil Defence Force (JPAM), and RELA, were promptly mobilised to the scene.

Fortunately, both climbers managed to navigate their way out of the forest independently. They arrived at Serembu Eco Park at about 6.30 pm and sought help from members of the public to return to their starting point. The women were later confirmed to be unharmed.

Following the incident, the victims presented themselves at Siniawan Police Station to provide statements for further investigation.

Authorities confirmed that no injuries were sustained and emphasised the importance of safety awareness during outdoor activities.

Police have since issued reminders to the public about the risks associated with climbing and trekking. They advised climbers to plan their routes carefully, avoid separating from their groups, ensure mobile phones are fully charged, and inform family members or relevant parties before embarking on such activities.

Mount Bung Muan, located near Siniawan in Bau District, is a popular destination for hikers and nature enthusiasts.

However, its dense forest terrain can pose challenges for those unfamiliar with the trails. Local authorities continue to encourage climbers to exercise caution and to follow safety guidelines to prevent similar incidents.
