KUCHING – Heavy rainfall early Tuesday morning caused several trees to fall along the busy 7th Mile area, prompting swift action from the Padawan Municipal Council’s LA Serve Team and the Angkatan Pertahanan Awam Malaysia to ensure public safety.
The incident occurred following continuous rain that began in the early hours of the day. Strong winds and saturated soil conditions are believed to have contributed to the trees toppling onto sections of the road. The fallen trees posed a risk to motorists and pedestrians, particularly during peak traffic hours when many residents were heading to work and school.
In response, the LA Serve Team under the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) was immediately deployed to the affected location to assist the Angkatan Pertahanan Awam Malaysia (APM) in clearing the debris. The joint operation focused on removing the fallen trunks and branches as quickly as possible to restore safe traffic flow and prevent further hazards.
Personnel from both agencies worked efficiently to cut and remove the obstructing trees while ensuring that no additional damage was caused to nearby infrastructure. Traffic control measures were also carried out to minimise congestion and safeguard road users during the clearing process.
Apart from addressing the fallen trees, MPP confirmed that it is working closely with other relevant agencies to monitor the overall flood situation in the area.
