MIRI – Renovation works at the MRC Miri Dialysis Centre, a crucial healthcare facility serving kidney patients for more than 30 years, have reached 60 per cent completion, signalling steady progress in upgrading its services and infrastructure.
The centre, which has long been recognised as one of the leading dialysis hubs in Malaysia, is undergoing a comprehensive refurbishment to ensure its facilities meet the latest standards set by the Ministry of Health Malaysia (KKM).
During a site visit on Friday, Sarawak Minister of Transport, Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, highlighted the importance of the project.
“This centre is among the best dialysis centres in the country, and this renovation is important to ensure the latest equipment is used in line with KKM standards,” he said.
The total cost of the renovation project is estimated at RM4.541 million. To date, the centre has received RM1.5 million in contributions, leaving a significant funding gap that must be filled to complete the works.
Dato Sri Lee urged corporate organisations, non-governmental bodies, and members of the local community to continue supporting the initiative.
He stressed that collective contributions are vital to ensure the centre can resume full operations by the middle of next year, once renovations and the installation of new dialysis machines are finalised.
“Community, corporate and organisational support is greatly needed to meet the cost of this project. Every contribution brings direct benefit to patients who depend on quality dialysis treatment,” he added.
The MRC Miri Dialysis Centre has been a lifeline for patients requiring regular dialysis treatment, providing essential services that significantly improve quality of life.
The ongoing renovation aims to enhance patient safety, modernise equipment, and expand capacity to meet growing demand.
Dato Sri Lee emphasised that the centre remains a key healthcare asset for Sarawak, particularly for those who rely heavily on consistent dialysis care.
He noted that the project reflects the state’s commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure and ensuring that patients have access to reliable, modern treatment facilities.
With the renovation works progressing steadily, stakeholders hope that continued support from the public and private sectors will bridge the funding gap and secure the centre’s future as a premier dialysis facility in Sarawak.
