Mukah Christmas Festival Parade Draws Over 5,000 Visitors

MUKAH – The Mukah Christmas Festival Parade brought together more than 5,000 visitors at Dataran Pehin Setia Raja on Sunday, highlighting the district’s strong spirit of unity and inclusivity.

The event was officiated by Deputy Minister of Economy, Dato Hanifah Hajar Taib, who also led a symbolic three-kilometre parade to mark the opening of the festival.

The procession featured 15 contingents representing diverse community groups, showcasing Sarawak’s multicultural harmony.

In her speech, Dato Hanifah emphasised that the festival is more than an annual celebration, describing it as a platform for people of different backgrounds to come together in the spirit of love, appreciation, and harmony.

“We need to strengthen relationships between communities, increase cooperation and help each other to build a more prosperous, inclusive and progressive society,” she said.

She further stressed that acceptance and respect for religious and cultural diversity form the foundation of community unity, adding that Mukah and Sarawak should serve as examples for the rest of the country.

The festival was enlivened with cultural and entertainment performances, including appearances by guest artists Afieq Shazwan, Haiza, and Ramles Walter. Their performances added vibrancy to the evening, drawing enthusiastic responses from the crowd.

The celebration also saw the presence of key figures including Mukah Division Resident Datu Kueh Lei Poh, Chairman of the Mukah Branch Churches Association Pastor Jimmy, Mukah District Officer Peleadzman Ahip, Dalat District Officer Mathew Hubert, and CatsFM Managing Director Iskandar Nawawi.

The Mukah Christmas Festival Parade has become a much-anticipated annual event, symbolising unity across communities while promoting Sarawak’s cultural diversity. Its success this year further reinforces Mukah’s role as a hub of inclusivity and festive spirit.
