MIRI – YB Datuk Menteri Mustapha Sakmud conducted an official working visit to the Miri District Operations Control Centre (PKOD) to assess the readiness and operational capacity of the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) at the district level.
During the visit, the Minister received a detailed briefing on current operations, personnel strength, logistical assets, and challenges faced by APM in carrying out rescue and humanitarian missions.
The session provided valuable insights into the daily responsibilities of officers and personnel who are directly involved in disaster management across Miri.
The visit also allowed the Minister to engage with APM officers and frontline staff, offering an opportunity to hear their perspectives and feedback.
Discussions highlighted the importance of strengthening assets, enhancing training programmes, and improving coordination between agencies to ensure effective disaster response.
In his remarks, the Minister emphasised that disaster preparedness must remain at the highest level, particularly given the unpredictability of weather patterns and the rising risk of natural disasters in several areas.
He stressed that proactive measures are essential to safeguard communities and minimise the impact of emergencies.
The working visit forms part of the MADANI Government’s broader initiative to reinforce disaster management capabilities at the grassroots level.
By ensuring that agencies such as APM are well-equipped and adequately trained, the government aims to deliver swift and effective responses during crises, prioritising the safety and welfare of the people.
The Minister’s inspection of PKOD underscores the government’s commitment to strengthening resilience in local communities.
With increasing challenges posed by climate change and environmental risks, such visits are seen as vital in maintaining operational readiness and ensuring that disaster response mechanisms remain robust and reliable.
