Nangka Assemblyman Reviews Progress of Jalan Teku Project

SIBU – Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee, N55 Nangka Assemblyman and Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Sarawak, conducted a site visit on 10 February 2026 to review the Jalan Teku / Jalan Teku Pasai Siong / Jalan Kemuyang Project.

The visit aimed to ensure the project is progressing according to schedule and specifications. Ir. Ts. Gs. Br. PMr. Chieng Siong Ming, Divisional Engineer of JKR Sibu Division, along with the appointed contractor, briefed the assemblyman on the current status of the works.

Datuk Dr Annuar expressed satisfaction with the progress, noting that the project is crucial for improving connectivity in Sibu Division. He highlighted that better roads will facilitate smoother movement for residents and support socio-economic growth in the surrounding areas.

The Jalan Teku project forms part of Sarawak’s broader infrastructure development agenda, designed to enhance accessibility and strengthen local communities. Improved road networks are expected to reduce travel time, ease the transportation of goods, and boost economic activities in the division.

Officials noted that rural communities will also benefit from better access to essential services and markets, aligning with Sarawak’s vision for balanced development across urban and rural areas.

The site visit underscores the government’s commitment to monitoring infrastructure projects closely, ensuring contractors deliver quality work within the set timeframe. Datuk Dr Annuar stressed that accountability and adherence to standards are key to achieving sustainable development outcomes.

JKR Sarawak confirmed it will continue overseeing the project, working with contractors and stakeholders to address challenges and maintain progress.

Residents have welcomed the initiative, recognising that improved road infrastructure will enhance mobility and create opportunities for businesses and local communities.

The Jalan Teku / Jalan Teku Pasai Siong / Jalan Kemuyang Project is set to play a significant role in Sibu’s future growth, highlighting the importance of infrastructure as a foundation for socio-economic advancement.
