MIRI – Kampung Piasau Utara has welcomed a new community leader following the official appointment of Rosli Bin Bagat @ Yusuf as Ketua Kaum (KK). His tenure will run from 1 June 2026 until 31 December 2028.
The appointment was confirmed during a ceremony at the Miri District Office, where local officials and community representatives gathered to mark the occasion.
The new KK takes over the role after the passing of the late Hipni, who had been widely respected for his dedication and service to the village.
Mayor Adam Yii of Miri City Council extended his congratulations, noting the importance of continuity in leadership for the well-being of the residents.
He expressed gratitude for the contributions of the late Hipni, highlighting his commitment to strengthening community ties and supporting local initiatives.
Kampung Piasau Utara has long been recognised as an active and cooperative village, often working closely with local authorities on development and welfare matters.
The mayor emphasised that this spirit of collaboration should continue under the new leadership, ensuring that the needs of residents are addressed effectively.
He also encouraged villagers to maintain open communication with the council, stressing that any issues or concerns should be raised promptly so that solutions can be found collectively.
“Let us work together to find the best solution for the well-being of the community. My desire is always the same, which is to help the people and ensure that their welfare continues to be protected,” he said.
The appointment of Rosli Bin Bagat @ Yusuf is seen as a step towards sustaining harmony and progress in Kampung Piasau Utara.
Local leaders hope that his leadership will build upon the foundations laid by his predecessor while also introducing new approaches to community development.
Observers note that the role of Ketua Kaum remains vital in Sarawak’s villages, serving as a bridge between residents and government agencies.
The position carries responsibilities not only in administrative matters but also in preserving cultural traditions and fostering unity among diverse groups.
With the new appointment, Kampung Piasau Utara looks forward to continued growth and cooperation, reinforcing its reputation as a strong and resilient community within Miri.
