Over 600 Join Inaugural News Run 2025 Promoting Unity and Health

KUCHING — The 2025 Latest News Run successfully brought together over 600 participants from all walks of life, including journalists, students, families, and professional runners, in a lively event that celebrated unity, health, and community spirit.

This was the first time such an event was held, and it was jointly organised by the Commonwealth Journalists Association (CJA) Sarawak Branch and the Kuching Division Journalists Association (KDJA), with support from Kuching South City Council (MBKS) and various sponsors.

The Mayor of Kuching South, Datuk Wee Hong Seng, was present to flag off the run and praised the strong involvement of journalists in promoting a healthy lifestyle.

“I’m very happy to see journalists running today. You’re not just sharing news, but also becoming role models for the community,” he said at the MBKS compound.

He highlighted that journalists often face busy and stressful work schedules, leaving little time for exercise. Events like this allow them to be active while connecting with the public.

“A healthy body leads to a healthy mind. You all have the powerful tool of media that can influence society. Use it well,” he added.

The HSL 10KM category was the highlight of the event. In the men’s category, Vucos took first place, followed by Mustafa and Erirko Might Gambang. For the women’s category, Lim Siet Fah was crowned champion, ahead of Sharon Chew and NaNa @ Linwei Na.

Aside from the 10KM race, the 5KM and 3KM fun runs attracted families, children, and even senior citizens. The event site was also filled with side activities like health booths, lucky draws, and media-community engagement sessions during the race pack collection.

The event’s main sponsor was Hock Seng Lee (HSL), supported by companies such as Petra Energy Bhd, Sarawak Metro Sdn. Bhd., DreamMaster Corporation Sdn. Bhd., BorsarMulu Park Management Sdn. Bhd., Health Lane Pharmacy, and individuals like Datuk Shankar Ram and Datuk Richard Wee.

Also present were CJA President Alice Wee, KDJA President Ronnie Teo, and HSL’s Head of Marketing Communications Abraham Tiong, showing strong industry support for the event.
