Sarawak NFDP Players Encouraged Ahead of National League 2025

KUCHING – Young footballers from Sarawak’s National Football Development Programme (NFDP) have received strong encouragement from state leaders as they prepare to compete in the NFDP Malaysia National League 2025, scheduled to take place at the Mokhtar Dahari Academy in Gambang, Pahang, from 13 to 21 November.

Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and UKAS) and NFDP Patron, Datuk Abdullah Saidol, met with players from the Under-12 (Women), Under-14 (Men), and Under-16 (Men) categories before their departure.

He reminded them of the importance of discipline, teamwork and focus, qualities he described as essential for success both on and off the pitch.

During the gathering, Datuk Abdullah also conveyed a message from Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr.) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, who urged the players to act as responsible representatives of Sarawak.

The Premier expressed confidence that the young athletes would demonstrate sportsmanship and uphold the state’s reputation at the national level.

In addition to words of motivation, Datuk Abdullah announced personal contributions from himself and the Premier to support the team.

He explained that the gesture was intended to recognise the dedication of players, coaches and officials who have worked tirelessly to prepare for the competition.

The squad representing Sarawak has been carefully selected through a structured development process. Players were identified via the NFDP league and divisional centres across the state, with assessments carried out by NFDP management in partnership with the Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC). This system ensures that only the most promising talents progress to national-level tournaments.

NFDP Sarawak expressed gratitude to the Premier for his continued backing, noting that such support has been vital in ensuring smooth preparations.

The organisation also highlighted the role of grassroots initiatives in nurturing young talent, pointing out that these programmes provide opportunities for children and teenagers to develop their skills in a professional environment.

Parents and guardians echoed this sentiment, thanking both state and federal authorities for investing in youth development.

They emphasised that initiatives like NFDP not only strengthen Sarawak’s sporting future but also instil values of discipline, resilience and teamwork among the younger generation.

The NFDP Malaysia National League is regarded as a key platform for identifying future football stars. By competing against peers from across the country, Sarawak’s players will gain valuable experience and exposure, helping to raise the standard of football in the state.

As the team heads to Gambang, expectations are high that Sarawak’s representatives will showcase their abilities and return with enhanced skills, confidence and pride.

The tournament is seen not only as a test of sporting excellence but also as a reflection of Sarawak’s commitment to nurturing youth through structured development programmes.
