BINTULU – The Niti Daun Parade, held on 16 May in conjunction with the Bintulu District Level Gawai Dayak Celebration 2026, drew an impressive turnout of more than 3,000 participants and showcased the rich cultural diversity of Sarawak’s Dayak communities.
Organised with the support of the Bintulu District Office, the event brought together 73 contingents representing government departments, agencies, companies, and local communities.
The parade highlighted traditional attire from the Iban, Kayan, Orang Ulu, Melanau Likao, and other Dayak ethnic groups, reflecting the spirit of unity and harmony that defines Bintulu’s multicultural identity.
The competition results saw the Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) emerge as champion, securing a prize of RM2,000.
KEBANA claimed the runner‑up position with RM1,500, while the Bintulu District Education Office took third place with RM1,000. The Education Office also received the Most Participation Award, earning an additional RM500.
The lively atmosphere was further enriched by the involvement of JKKK longhouses from Jepak, Tanjung Batu, and Samalaju, whose participation reinforced the communal values of cooperation and togetherness.
Organisers expressed appreciation for the close collaboration between government and private agencies, including JKR, PDRM, APMM, Department of Agriculture, Department of Information, UKAS, JKM, Department of Health, RELA, and others who contributed to the success of the programme.
Corporate sponsors and community leaders also played a vital role, providing resources and support to ensure the smooth running of the event.
Their commitment underscored the importance of collective effort in sustaining cultural traditions and strengthening community bonds.
Datu Nyurak Keti, Bintulu Division Resident, along with the Bintulu District Officer, District Police Chief, department heads, and community leaders, were present to witness the parade and celebrate the achievements of the participants.
The Niti Daun Parade has been proposed as an annual event, given its success in fostering unity, discipline, and friendship among departments, agencies, and the wider community.
Beyond its competitive elements, the programme served as a cultural showcase, reminding residents and visitors alike of the enduring values of Sarawak’s Dayak heritage.
As Bintulu continues to grow as a centre of development, events such as the Niti Daun Parade highlight the importance of cultural preservation and community solidarity.
The celebration not only honoured tradition but also strengthened the bonds that will carry Sarawak forward into the future.
