LUNDU – The Immigration Enforcement Division in Kuching has detained 47 illegal immigrants during a special operation, codenamed Ops Sapu, carried out at a plantation in Kampung Pasir Hilir, Lundu.
The operation, which took place following a tip-off from the public, involved a swift and coordinated effort by the Immigration Department to curb the presence of undocumented foreigners in Sarawak.
According to Immigration authorities, those arrested consisted of 39 men and eight women. All of them are believed to have violated several provisions under the Immigration Act 1959/63, including:
- Section 6(1)(c) – for entering or remaining in Malaysia without valid passes or permits.
- Section 15(1)(c) – for overstaying beyond the permitted duration.
Authorities said that all detainees are being investigated further, and appropriate legal action will be taken in accordance with existing laws.
The Kuching Immigration Department expressed appreciation to members of the public who came forward with information that led to the successful raid. Immigration officers highlighted that community cooperation is vital in ensuring national security and in safeguarding the sovereignty of the country.
“This operation is part of our continuous effort to track down and take strict action against foreigners who disregard our laws. We urge the public to continue reporting such activities,” the statement said.
At the same time, Immigration reminded employers and individuals not to hire, protect, or harbour foreigners who lack valid documentation. Such actions are considered serious offences and could result in legal consequences.
The department also stressed that while Malaysia welcomes legitimate foreign workers, strict compliance with immigration laws is necessary to maintain order, public safety, and the integrity of the labour sector in Sarawak.
