HUANGSHI, CHINA – The Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) has formalised an Enhanced Friendship City Agreement with the City of Huangshi in Hubei Province, China, marking a new phase in international cooperation between the two cities.
The signing ceremony, held at The Camphor Garden Reception Hall, reinforces a partnership that began in 2018 and sets the stage for deeper collaboration across multiple sectors.
The agreement was signed by MPP Chairman Cr Tan Kai and Huangshi Mayor Wu ZhiLing, with delegations from both sides present.
Senior officials including MPP Municipal Secretary Ir Ts Goh Thiam Ho and Huangshi Deputy Mayor Guo Bao attended, alongside directors from key departments.
The pact focuses on strengthening ties in trade, education, tourism, and official exchanges, underpinned by principles of equality and mutual benefit.
In his address, Wu ZhiLing highlighted Huangshi’s industrial strengths, noting the city’s reputation as a major hub with advanced technological expertise.
He expressed confidence that the partnership would unlock broad opportunities for cooperation, particularly in industrial and technological exchanges.
Cr Tan Kai described the agreement as a significant milestone for Padawan, expanding its international horizons and creating new avenues for economic, educational, and cultural development.
He also conveyed appreciation for the hospitality extended by Huangshi authorities and emphasised Padawan’s potential in eco-tourism and cultural diversity.
The MPP delegation’s visit included tours of Hubei Normal University and Hubei Polytechnic Institute, providing insights into how higher education institutions collaborate closely with local industries to nurture talent.
This model, officials noted, could serve as a valuable reference for Padawan’s own development strategies.
The delegation also observed Huangshi’s advanced technological enterprises, which may pave the way for enhanced business exchanges between companies from both cities.
The Enhanced Friendship City Agreement builds upon the foundation laid in 2018, when Padawan and Huangshi first established ties.
By expanding cooperation into new areas, both cities aim to stimulate economic growth, strengthen social development, and reinforce international relations.
The collaboration reflects Sarawak’s broader ambition to engage globally while promoting sustainable development at home.
With the agreement now sealed, MPP and Huangshi are optimistic about the future, envisioning a partnership that not only benefits both communities but also contributes to stronger international networks.
The initiative underscores the importance of cross-border collaboration in addressing shared challenges and opportunities in today’s interconnected world.
