JOHOR BAHRU – Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has confirmed that Pakatan Harapan will contest the upcoming Johor state election with a line-up of 56 candidates.
He stated that the coalition intends to represent Malaysia’s diverse communities, with candidates expected to address local concerns that resonate strongly with the people of Johor.
Anwar highlighted that the coalition’s record at the federal level provides a solid foundation for its campaign.
He noted that the administration under the MADANI Government has channelled significant resources to Johor, reflecting a commitment to balanced development across the country.
According to him, Johor has consistently received increased allocations each year, with federal contributions surpassing RM16 billion for infrastructure, welfare, and community projects, despite the state contributing around RM14 billion to the national economy.
The Prime Minister stressed that Johor ranks among the top three states in terms of overall federal allocation, underscoring its importance to national growth.
He explained that the government’s investments are aimed at ensuring long-term benefits for residents, ranging from improved facilities to enhanced social support.
In his remarks, Anwar also addressed the broader democratic process. He urged political parties to compete fairly, without involving institutions such as the monarchy or resorting to divisive tactics.
“If you want to fight, enter the ring and fight with dignity. Fight with facts and records, not riding on royal institutions and inciting racial or religious sentiments simply to gain political support,” he said.
He emphasised that the people of Johor deserve constructive proposals for their future rather than campaigns fuelled by hostility or division.
The prime minister reminded candidates that elections are not merely about securing positions of power but about fulfilling a responsibility to solve community challenges and advance the state’s progress.
Anwar’s message to the coalition’s representatives was clear: the election should be seen as a trust placed by the people, requiring dedication and integrity.
He urged them to carry the spirit of hope and work towards a vision of “Johor Forward”, reflecting aspirations for stronger governance and inclusive development.
The announcement of candidates marks a significant step in Pakatan Harapan’s preparations for the state polls.
With Johor’s strategic role in Malaysia’s economy and its diverse population, the election is expected to be closely watched.
The coalition’s emphasis on unity, fairness, and accountability sets the tone for what could be a competitive contest in the southern state.
