SPAOH – The Pelawa Farm Road upgrading project in Spaoh has been fully completed, providing residents with improved access to agricultural areas and supporting rural economic growth.
The project was carried out under the Betong Division Development Agency (BDDA) programme and delivered on schedule.
Works commenced on 9 October 2025 and were completed on 8 April 2026, spanning a six-month period.
The initiative was aimed at enhancing connectivity for farmers in the DUN N.37 Bukit Saban constituency, ensuring safer and more comfortable travel to and from their farmland.
Local residents are expected to benefit significantly from the upgraded road, which will ease daily movement and improve the transportation of agricultural produce to markets.
By reducing travel difficulties, the project is anticipated to strengthen the economic resilience of rural communities and encourage greater participation in farming activities.
Officials highlighted that the completion of the road reflects the government’s ongoing commitment to rural infrastructure development.
Such projects are seen as vital in raising living standards, supporting local economies, and ensuring that communities outside urban centres are not left behind in terms of accessibility and growth opportunities.
The Pelawa Farm Road is one of several initiatives under the BDDA programme, which focuses on enhancing infrastructure across the Betong Division.
By prioritising rural connectivity, the programme aims to create long-term benefits for residents, including better access to markets, healthcare, and education facilities.
Community members have welcomed the project, noting that improved road conditions will reduce travel time and costs, while also providing safer routes for transporting goods.
The initiative is expected to encourage more efficient agricultural practices and contribute to the overall development of Spaoh and surrounding areas.
The successful completion of the Pelawa Farm Road stands as a testament to the importance of infrastructure investment in rural Sarawak.
It highlights how targeted projects can directly improve livelihoods and promote sustainable growth across the state.
