The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department’s (JBPM) Operations Centre (PGO) said they received an emergency call at 3.05pm about the incident. A team of firefighters from the Samalaju Fire and Rescue Station (BBP), located about 14 kilometres from the scene, was immediately dispatched with firefighting machinery.

According to the department spokesperson, the small hatchback had been left on the side of the road following an accident that occurred on 5 August.

“When our team arrived, the Perodua Kancil was already engulfed in flames. The vehicle was 100 percent destroyed by the fire,” the spokesperson said in a statement.

Firefighters worked quickly to put out the flames using a single flow of auxiliary water from the machinery tank. The operation was successfully completed without any injuries reported.

The cause of the fire has not been officially determined. However, preliminary information suggests that the vehicle had been abandoned at the roadside for several days before the fire broke out.

The Miri-Bintulu Pan Borneo Highway is one of Sarawak’s busiest routes, linking major towns along the northern corridor. Authorities have reminded road users to remain cautious when driving past stalled or abandoned vehicles, as these can pose safety hazards, especially in remote areas.
