PETALING JAYA – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim attended a Christmas Tea Party with the local community upon his return from Langkawi, highlighting Malaysia’s unity and harmony in contrast to divisive narratives promoted by racist and extremist groups.
In his speech, Anwar stressed that Malaysia remains a peaceful and prosperous nation despite its diversity and complexities.
He emphasised that this peace can only be sustained through policies that are fair to all citizens, leaving no room for hatred or extremist attitudes.
On education, the Prime Minister explained that the Government’s approach is not a zero-sum game. He reaffirmed that the Malay language must remain the national core, while also recognising the importance of mastering English and giving space to other languages, including Chinese (UEC education) and Arabic, without causing anxiety or misunderstanding.
Anwar also expressed concern over the deterioration of values and morals in politics, society and global leadership.
He urged that religion and belief should not remain mere slogans or symbols, but instead serve as a courageous voice of conscience against corruption, injustice and oppression.
Highlighting the role of religious leaders and institutions, Anwar described them as vital dialogue partners and guardians of community values.
To support interfaith understanding, the Government has allocated RM200,000 to the Malaysian Christian Federation to foster dialogue, strengthen moral values and promote harmony in Malaysia’s multi-racial and multi-religious society.
“Malaysia will only go far if we hold fast to justice, kindness and the principles of humanity, and dare to manage differences fairly and responsibly. This is the spirit of MADANI which is the foundation of the country’s strength,” he said.
The event reflected the MADANI Government’s commitment to inclusivity, interfaith cooperation and the nurturing of values that underpin Malaysia’s social fabric.
