CEBU CITY – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has concluded a short visit to Cebu City, where Malaysia participated in the 48th ASEAN Summit and related conferences.
The visit underscored Malaysia’s commitment to strengthening ASEAN unity and advancing regional cooperation in key sectors.
In a statement following the summit, Anwar highlighted Malaysia’s role in bridging development gaps among member states.
He emphasised the importance of expanding trade networks, boosting investment, and enhancing digital coverage to ensure ASEAN remains competitive in a rapidly changing global environment.
The Prime Minister also stressed Malaysia’s focus on food security, noting that reliable access to resources is essential for the collective well-being of ASEAN citizens.
He added that Malaysia will continue to uphold principles aligned with international norms and laws, reinforcing the region’s credibility on the global stage.
Energy supply challenges were another priority. Anwar acknowledged that the crisis is universal and affects all nations, making it crucial for ASEAN countries to work together in finding sustainable solutions.
Malaysia pledged to play an active role in strengthening cooperation to address this issue, particularly through cross-border initiatives and renewable energy projects.
Digital transformation was a recurring theme at the summit. Malaysia expressed its readiness to collaborate with ASEAN partners in expanding digital infrastructure and functionality, recognising that technology is central to economic growth and resilience.
The country’s commitment to innovation reflects broader efforts to prepare ASEAN for future challenges.
