KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced plans to prioritize the Ministry of Youth and Sports with increased funding allocations aimed at bolstering Malaysia’s sports industry.

Anwar, who also serves as the Minister of Finance, emphasized the importance of supporting sports initiatives despite current economic challenges. His commitment comes at a crucial time, particularly with preparations underway for the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic Games, highlighting programs like the Podium Program and Road To Gold.

Addressing attendees at the 2023 National Sports Awards Ceremony held at the Banquet Hall, Casa 4, National Sports Council, Bukit Jalil, Anwar underscored the government’s focus on enhancing national sports activities. The event was attended by Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh and her deputy, Adam Adli Abd Halim.

“Our government recognizes the significant role of sports in uniting our diverse population. It transcends social divides and fosters a sense of national unity,” stated Anwar.

He further pledged to extend support to national sports associations and stakeholders to empower the industry further, acknowledging the collective effort that contributes to Malaysia’s sporting achievements on the global stage.

In conclusion, Prime Minister Anwar expressed gratitude to Malaysian athletes for their outstanding performances, attributing their success to a collaborative effort involving families, sports associations, and the community.
