KOTA KINABALU – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has reiterated the MADANI Government’s commitment to Sabah, highlighting ongoing projects and policies designed to strengthen the state’s development and safeguard its rights.
Speaking at a dialogue with the Sabah Chinese Association, Anwar addressed concerns raised by traders regarding the implementation of the Sales and Service Tax (SST) and e-invoices.
He acknowledged that not all policies are flawless and assured that the government is refining procedures while taking into account feedback from the business community.
Anwar stressed that the administration’s efforts are not tied to election campaigning, pointing out that the Sabah water project was approved as early as 2023.
He also highlighted the RM2 billion programme to expand internet connectivity across Sabah and Sarawak, noting that the initiative was driven by the urgent need to address digital inequality.
Recalling a widely reported incident where a child had to climb a tree to access a stable internet, Anwar said the story had spurred him to act swiftly upon becoming Prime Minister.
“This is proof that we do not need to wait for the election campaign to solve the people’s problems,” he remarked.
On Sabah’s rights, Anwar reaffirmed the government’s clear stance on the 40 per cent revenue entitlement under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
He explained that while certain aspects of a recent court ruling are being appealed, the principle of Sabah’s entitlement remains intact.
He emphasised that the issue should not be framed as Sabah versus the Peninsula, but rather as a collective responsibility to appoint leaders who genuinely defend the rights of the people.
The Prime Minister added that Sabah’s prosperity is vital for Malaysia’s overall progress. “When Sabah prospers, the whole of Malaysia also leaps forward,” he said.
He expressed appreciation to Tan Sri T.C. Goh and members of the Sabah Chinese Association for their continued support and confidence in the government’s vision.
Anwar concluded by urging unity in building a Malaysia that is fair, prosperous, and respectful of the rights of all states and territories.
His remarks underline the MADANI Government’s broader framework of inclusivity, social justice, and sustainable development.
