SARIKEI – Several People-Friendly Projects (PMR) have been completed in Sarikei and Bintangor, signifying the government’s continued effort to upgrade infrastructure to provide a better and safer living environment.
Deputy Minister of Plantations and Commodities and MP for Sarikei, Dato’ Sri Huang Tiong Sii, explained that the initiatives had been carried out to resolve problems related to damaged and non-tarred roads.
“This was done so as to enable convenient mobility for the locals’ daily activities and in order to minimize safety risks from damaged or untarred roadways,” he said through his representative, Wong Soon Mee, during a site verification session last Monday.
Those completed included a project to build a concrete road at Jalan Yii Ung King, Mile 6, as well as another at Jalan Kelupu in Bintangor and Jalan Sheng En in Sungai Mador, Bintangor.
In addition, improvement and new road works were implemented at Jalan Tak Sing Lama (Jalan Darat MPK Mal / 46) area mile 2.5 KJD, Bintangor for the convenience and safety of local inhabitants.
In Sarikei, upgrade works were carried out at Rumah Liman Ubak, Sungai Kesa where concrete walkway was laid in the compound to ensure that they could traverse safely and with ease, especially during the wet season which often sees flooding and slippery ground.
Dato’ Sri Huang also stressed that the government is always looking out for the people’s interest at grassroot level. He said allocations will be continued to be channelled to projects that can directly benefit rural and urban communities, in keeping with our larger ambition of development equilibrium throughout Sarawak.
This PMR initiative is one aspect of an overall infrastructure investing strategy focused on coating smaller towns and villages with it, helping to create better transport options for residents, while minimising risk. Local leaders have embraced the projects, citing their significance in maintaining economic activity and daily life.
Road projects and more secure public spaces are seen as practical improvements that the government hopes will make rural districts more resilient. The implementation of these projects in Sarikei and Bintangor has shown that consistent infrastructure investment is essential for the well-being of our communities.
