KUCHING, 27 April 2025 Sarawak’s Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Haji Johari Tun Openg, has urged the public to place their trust in the state’s robust economic outlook during a speech at Affin Bank’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri Open House. Speaking at the open house, the Premier addressed recent external negativity surrounding Sarawak’s economic future. He reassured Sarawakians that the state’s economy remains strong, citing a steady increase in revenue since 2019 and strategic investments, including a notable partnership with Affin Bank. The Premier also highlighted the impressive growth of Sarawak’s sovereign wealth fund, which now exceeds RM8 billion, underscoring the state’s proactive efforts to secure a prosperous future.

“It is important for Sarawakians to remain optimistic and not be swayed by outside pessimism,” the Premier stated, emphasizing the strength of Sarawak’s economic fundamentals. His remarks appeared to counter recent media reports that painted a negative picture of the state’s economic prospects.

The event, attended by prominent government figures, corporate leaders, and community representatives, also saw the introduction of the Kenyalang Debit Card. This initiative is designed to increase financial accessibility for Sarawakians, with the card available to individuals holding a MyKad bearing the letter ‘K,’ symbolizing their Sarawakian heritage. It is also open to residents and professionals based in Sarawak, reinforcing Affin Bank’s commitment to fostering financial inclusivity.

The night featured a cultural performance by Karya Terindah Performing Arts and was followed by a speech from Yang Berbahagia Datuk Wan Razly Abdullah, President & Group CEO of Affin Bank, who expressed gratitude for the partnership between Affin Bank and the Sarawak government. He reaffirmed the bank’s ongoing support for the state’s economic growth.

The event was graced by various distinguished guests, including Yang Berhormat Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Deputy Premier of Sarawak, and other key figures from both Affin Bank and the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly. – Sarawakku
