KUCHING – With less than 14 months remaining, preparations for the 2025 Borneo Games Kuching are now in full swing as key organising bodies convened to finalise planning for the regional sports event set for 24–28 September 2025.

A coordination meeting was held at the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) Main Meeting Room involving UKAS, the Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC), and the Sarawak State Sports Council (MSNS). Discussions centred on logistical and promotional strategies, with particular focus on publicity efforts via social and print media.

UKAS Director Awang Putrayusrie Awang Redzuan joined the meeting via Zoom, while Deputy Director Joachim Paggang Jabong, SSC Acting CEO and Head of the Borneo Games Kuching 2025 Secretariat Khairul Nizam Morshidi, and other representatives were present in person.

Key agenda items included:

  • Athlete registration and coordination
  • Official attire and branding
  • Accommodation and lodging arrangements
  • Confirmation of venues and sporting events
  • Scheduling and logistics of the games

An estimated 1,500 athletes from Sarawak, Sabah, Labuan, Brunei Darussalam, and East Kalimantan are expected to compete in seven sports, including:

Core Sports:

  • Swimming
  • Field Bowling
  • Archery
  • Badminton
  • Athletics

Traditional Sports:

  • Blowdarts
  • Tug-of-War

Additionally, a special golf event will be held exclusively for VIP guests at the Sarawak Golf Club.

All other events will take place around the Sarawak Sports Complex, which will serve as the central hub for the biennial tournament.

The Borneo Games continues to serve as a platform for regional camaraderie, talent development, and cultural exchange through sports, reinforcing Sarawak’s role as a key host of regional athletic excellence.
